Anti-crime technology firm Facewatch has announced plans to implement a new tool that will notify police when an offender enters the store.

ANTI-CRIME tech firm Facewatch has announced its new plans to roll out a UK-first real-time police alert capability as part of its new crime management platform.

Set to roll out this autumn, the new tech will alert police in real-time when serious offenders enter into stores through live facial recognition technology.

The feature will trigger an instant notification to police the moment the offender is matched through the system’s database as they enter a protected store, enabling police to act faster when an incident occurs.

Facewatch has said the new tech has been designed to support enforcement action against the most prolific and dangerous repeat offenders across the UK and tackle retail crime across stores.

This will further Facewatch’s capabilities to support retailers and their staff across the UK with real-time notifications and action and build on the strong results the firm has already seen with its tech.

According to Facewatch, more than 50,000 positive alerts are sent out to thousands of retail stores in the UK every month through its technology, helping to protect store owners when a known criminal has entered into their store.

Additionally, Facewatch said it can offer up to 99.98% operational accuracy through its tech by checking each match through two algorithms before it goes to a human verification stage and then sends an alert to the retailer.

Nick Fisher, chief executive at Facewatch, said: “The Facewatch Crime Management Platform combines world-class algorithm accuracy with an easy-to-use reporting system, enabling retailers to record incidents, analyse data and generate evidence-led reports.

“Retailers have told us they want one trusted platform that supports shop floor colleagues, loss prevention teams and the police, and that’s what we’re building.

“To support the wider community and government fight against retail crime, the capability to alert police instantly when serious offenders trigger a live facial recognition match will take evidence-backed crime reporting to the next level.

“We’re calling time on prolific repeat offending with a unique technical development that will warn police within an average of four seconds the moment the worst offenders are matched and flagged on our network.”
