Demand for natural products builds success for Scottish dairy

AYRSHIRE dairy Mossgiel Farm has secured a new distribution deal in London as demand for more natural products builds across the capital.
As part of a new partnership with Modern Milkman delivery service, Mossgiel’s slowly brewed, non-homogenised whole milk will roll out to consumers across London.
The new deal is set to potentially reach thousands of customers across the capital in what marks a significant step for the Ayrshire dairy farm.
Mossgiel’s ‘low and slow’ brewing process offers shoppers a gently pasteurised milk that has been brewed at a lower temperature for longer periods to help preserve its natural structure, flavour and cream whilst still meeting food safety standards.
The family-run farm reckons the new move could open up a major new market for Scottish dairy firms as the growing interest for less processed dairy products as Mossgiel says it could have a “transformational impact” on the industry.
And Mossgiel has already expanded on its own operations to help meet this demand. The firm has upped its capacity by more than 10% following the recent additions of three farms across north of Scotland as direct milk suppliers, giving the business greater control over its milk pool as its grows beyond Scotland.
Bryce Cunningham, founder of Mossgiel Farm, said: “Modern Milkman gives us access to a completely different scale of market. It opens the door to reaching thousands more households who are actively looking for better food systems – and it allows us to do that while staying true to everything we stand for.
“Today, what’s sold as ‘whole milk’ often isn’t what people think it is. It’s standardised, processed at scale, and stripped back before being rebuilt. That changes the flavour and the character of the product. Our low and slow brewing process does the opposite. It keeps the integrity of the milk intact.
“We are seeing real curiosity around how food is produced. People want good, old-fashioned milk with minimal processing and maximum taste. We cannot sell raw milk widely in the UK, but brewed milk gives people something more natural and more sustainable, with real flavour, but still produced to the highest safety standards.”
