SGF pays its respects to Charlie Faulkiner
TITAN of the Scottish retail and wholesale sectors Charlie Faulkiner has sadly died as the Scottish Grocers’ Federation (SGF) shares its condolences with his family.
Faulkiner’s career spanned across decades in the retail sector, beginning in the Co-operative movement before he would hold numerous senior positions across the group, including the chief executive role of the firm’s wholesale operations.
Originally from Blantyre, Faulkiner started his retail journey in his local Co-op store and eventually moved to the Titwood Road Dairy, which was the headquarters for its wholesaler operations, before moving on to become chief executive at the head office in Morrison Street for many years.
Following his time with the Co-op, Faulkiner joined Wismen as second in charge for retail sector operations before his retirement 10 years ago.
Faulkiner is survived by his wife of 50 years Eleanor, his son Scott and granddaughter Emilia. Throughout his life, he remained local and lived in Hamilton and was a past member of the Blantyre Round Table and active supporter of the Maggie’s charity.
Pete Cheema, chief executive at the SGF, said: “On behalf of the Scottish Grocers’ Federation and the wider convenience retail community, I extend our sincere condolences to his wife Eleanor, son Scott, granddaughter Emilia, and all of Charlie’s family and friends during this difficult time.
“Charlie was admired not only for his professional achievements but also for his integrity, kindness, and unwavering support of colleagues and friends across the industry. Those who had the privilege of working with him will remember his wisdom, humility, and commitment to helping others succeed.
“He remained deeply connected to his local community in Hamilton and was a loyal supporter of many charitable and community causes. Charlie’s contribution to our industry was immense, and his legacy will long be remembered.
“May he rest in peace.”
