A move towards whisky in the west of Scotland
SCOTLAND’S most westerly distiller Isle of Barra Distillers has launched its new range of whisky options, expanding its spirits range.
The new range consists of Barra Distillers’ Blended Scotch Whisky and Its 10 Year Old Blended Malt Scotch Whisky. Both come bottled at the slightly higher ABV of 46% in 700ml bottles.
The standard Blended Scotch Whisky contains a mixture of Tullibardine 7 Year Old whisky as well as a Second Fill Sauternes Mannochmore that has been aged for three years and had its first fill in a Pedro Sherry cask.
Limited to only 986 bottles, the blend’s tasting notes have been described as warm, buttery pancakes with a drizzle of golden syrup and plenty of spice and vanilla bourbon. The RRP for this launch comes at £45 per bottle.
The 10 year age statement blended expression comes at a the higher RRP of £70, and contains a mix of Blair Athol 15 Year Old and Benriach 10 Year Old and has tasting notes described as oily walnuts, flamed orange peel, tangy red fruit and marzipan.
The pair of blends will be available for purchase from the Isle of Barra Distillers’ website from 9 December.
This marks a first for the family-owned distiller and the firm said it offers a taste of what is still to come from the brand. The brand’s spirits range also contains Atlantic Gin, Hebridean Vodka and Island Dark Rum.
Michael Morrison, co-founder and managing director at Isle of Barra Distillers, said: “These two blended whiskies are the perfect celebration of new beginnings for Isle of Barra Distillers and for our island.
“We’re getting ready to start the construction of our new distillery here on our home island, which is the next step in reaching our goal to create something that not only we can be proud of, but that the wider Barra community can be proud – giving back to our thriving island home.
“The whiskies are a real taste of what is to come from Isle of Barra Distillers.”
