Former employee cuts ribbon on forecourt refit
A FORMER employee was welcomed back to Spar Nairn Service Station to cut the ribbon after the forecourt store received a refit.
Kathleen Leghorn, who had served the Nairn community in the store for 26 years until her retirement, was invited back to reopen the store following its refurbishment which took place on 5 June.
Sharon Ellen, store manager at Spar Nairn, said: “It was wonderful to welcome Kathleen back to re-open the newly transformed store.
“She was a much-loved employee and is still a familiar face in the store as a customer, so she was the perfect person to officially unveil the renovated store.”
The ceremony was followed by a day of celebrations for the local community which saw consumers sample new products and receive free hot drinks and slushies. Along with this, customers also took home freebies including Cadbury chocolate, goodie bags and Gulf merchandise.
Some lucky shoppers also bagged Spar vouchers on the day as well as first-in, first-out products in various prize draws that took place across the celebrations.
While the store has been standing for over 40 years now, an investment made by Certas Energy – the firm behind Gulf – of just under £100,000 has seen a major transformation take place in the store.
It boasts a new ceiling, flooring and energy-efficient lighting with a bespoke counter to help offer a unique experience for shoppers. Further to this, new and larger fridges have been installed to stock a wider variety of chilled products with an intuitive layout that highlights defined zones for food-to-go, chilled, alcohol and making a meal.
Sharon said: “The Gulf sit is the heart of the community. Like myself, the whole team were raised in the local area.
“We’ve had lots of really positive feedback about the refit so far. Even the Nairn Academy students are saying how smart the shop looks.
“We’re pleased to be able to offer even more product variety to the community and welcome them into a modern looking Spar store.”
