BOSSES at Landmark Wholesale and Today’s Group have issued a statement to reassure retailers concerned by their merger plans.
Darren Goldney, managing director of Today’s Group and John Mills, managing director of Landmark Wholesale, have said both wholesalers’ respective fascias will continue to operate as usual.
The pair said: “Both buying groups have their own fascias – Today’s Extra, Today’s Express, Today’s Drinks, Day Today, Day Today Express, Lifestyle Express, Lifestyle Extra and Lifestyle Value – which have been invested in by our retailers and wholesale members to create contemporary store formats that satisfy the needs of their customers on a daily basis.
“We would like to reassure these retailers that the fascias will continue as they are, however they will benefit from the support of a stronger, scaled-up group working closely with suppliers to do an even better job.”
The boards of Landmark Wholesale and Today’s Group announced their intention to merge the two buying groups on 6 August. Subject to a members vote which closes on 6 September, the joint business will represent over 200 depots across the UK. The board has revealed the newly merged buying group will be called Unitas.
Landmark Wholesale’s Scottish membership includes United Wholesale Grocers, Lomond: The Wholesale Food Co, Yules and Forteith Foodservice.
The Today’s Group membership includes Glasgow based wholesaler United Wholesale (Scotland) and JW Filshill.
