Marking a decade of whisky production in Glasgow
LOWLANDS whisky producer The Glasgow Distillery has rolled out its first 10 Year Old Peated whisky expression to mark a decade of production at the city distillery.
Limited to just 550 bottles, the milestone release has been matured across three ex-Bourbon barrels – two refill ex-Bourbon barrels as well as one first-fill ex-Bourbon barrel. The final dram comes bottled at 54% ABV with a natural colour.
Tasting notes for the whisky have been described as a delicate smoke with a honeyed sweetness underneath complete with tropical fruits and citrus. This comes alongside a waxy texture and a lingering oak spice on the palate to create a more refined expression.
The Glasgow 1770 10 Year Old Peated Single Malt Scotch Whisky comes with a gift carton outer package with an RRP of £69 from select UK retailers.
This release marks a decade of peated whisky production at The Glasgow Distillery after production shifted towards making a peated single malt expression in 2016, a year after the core single malt was laid down.
The peated range now accounts for a significant part of the whisky-making operation at The Glasgow Distillery, now accounting for five months of production each year.
Sebastian Bunford-Jones, head of sales & marketing at The Glasgow Distillery, said: “Reaching ten years with our peated single malt feels like a really significant moment for us.
“Peated production has become an important part of what we do at The Glasgow Distillery, so for this release we wanted to keep things deliberately simple and let the spirit speak for itself.
“Ex-Bourbon cask maturation have given us a whisky that really shows how our peated spirit has developed over a decade, while retaining the character we’ve been building since those first runs in 2016. Expect notes of roasted pineapple, soft smoke, gentle vanilla, waxy lemon and dried orange peel.
“With only 550 bottles, it’s a small release, but an important one for the distillery.”
