GROCERY industry charity The Grocer Company of Glasgow has branched out to support students on an important wine course.
The charity, founded in 1789 by city grocers and merchants who wanted to look after the poor and needy of the trade, supports a number of pensioners but has in recent years also given backing to food and drink related students for courses, equipment and materials that will aid career development.
Now 15 City of Glasgow College students have enrolled in the Wine and Spirit Education Trust (WSET) Level 2 Certificate in Wines and Spirits course, run by the college and funded by the charity.
Grocer Company of Glasgow Preses David Blackwood said: “My fellow directors and I are very pleased to provide funds for a number of students, to help them gain a world-recognised qualification with this course.”
