WITH buying something for ‘tonight’s tea’ becoming an increasingly frequent reason for shoppers to visit c-stores it’s essential that retailers provide quick and easy solutions, reckons Amy Mumby, national account manager for frozen desserts supplier Coppenrath & Wiese “Frozen desserts present a huge opportunity here and are perfect for that Monday –Thursday quick fix,” she said.
The firm is extending its cheesecake range with the launch of a Lemon and Lime Cheesecake. Two new cream pies are also due to be launched later in the year.
• Brian Crowther, from gourmet dessert company Merangz, said he has noticed a trend towards “simple yet luxurious” desserts.
“People today lead busy lives so don’t want the fuss of making things from scratch, but they still want quality,” he said.
“Convenience stores should always stock a wide range of dessert options – particularly ones that are convenient and fuss free.”
Merangz, he said, tick lots of boxes for c-stores, being ambient, versatile and colourful.
• Spar has launched seven new hot and cold dessert lines, including puddings and cheesecakes, in a range of packs. The new lines are expected to generate around £1.6m sales for the group.
