THE major musical event run by the GroceryAid Scotland branch promises to be back with a bang later in the year.

The Scottish committee of volunteers has once again got the backing of charity chiefs to stage Checkout Scotland in Glasgow on 28 August.

Previous events have featured big names such as Sophie Ellis Bextor, Example, B*witched, The View and Johnny Marr, along with DJ sets from George Bowie and Cassi, among others.

As well as providing a cash boost for GroceryAid, the gig raises awareness about how the charity can help workers in convenience and associated sectors financially and with wellbeing support.

Checkout Scotland also allows brands to shout out to customers through major activations and gives people in the retail industry a great chance to network in a fun atmosphere.

Upwards of 800 attendees are expected, including independent and grocery retailers, wholesalers and brands. Ticket prices are the same as last year, costing £95 plus VAT each.

AG Barr and Britvic are both returning as major sponsors, with Highland Spring and Buckfast also backing the gig.

Organisers hope to attract up to 30 sponsors, just as they did for the 2024 event, which raised £55,000 for GroceryAid.

Matthew Howie, joint chair of GroceryAid Scotland, said: “Our intention is to raise more money than we’ve ever done before for the charity. And we want to give the event more of a Scottish vibe by having some of our best-known and rising stars perform.

“It’s also a great opportunity for Scottish, UK and international brands to showcase themselves. The sponsorship options are perfect for brands and suppliers that want to engage with the Scottish trade.”
