Scottish non-alcoholic spirit brand bags top prize
SUPERMARKET chain Asda has triumphed at the London Spirits Competition as it picks up the top gong in the ‘Non-Alcoholic of the Year’ drinks category.
The product, Asda Extra Special Non-Alcoholic Rhubarb & Ginger Botanical Drink, picked up one of the only two gold medals awarded in the category as judges praised its flavours of cucumber, herb and kiwi notes with balanced sweetness and bittersweet finish.
Made by Asda in conjunction with Scottish producer Spirits of Virtue and blender Angela Mount, the drink was awarded 92 points in the category which brought the supermarket chain the accolade.
Part of a four-strong range, the products first hit Asda shelves in November with a price of £10 per bottle and are available in a majority of the firm’s stores.
In addition, Asda also picked up a silver medal for its Dark Spiced Cane, with 82 points judges praised its flavours of coffee, toffee and vanilla.
Founded by Roddy and Kerr Nicoll, Spirits of Virtue first set out to deliver on a more premium offer in the non-alcoholic spirits sector that offers a high level of quality to its consumers.
