CUMBERNAULD convenience store Spar Clyne Condorrat has hit a major milestone in its mission to install anti-choking LifeVac devices across community locations in the town.

As part of a significant partnership between the Spar store and LifeVac, Spar Condorrat has successfully equipped every school, nursery, family learning centre and a number of care homes, private nurseries, childminders and support groups across Cumbernauld with the life saving devices.

Further to this, dedicated staff members from Spar Condorrat are now also fully trained in using the devices to assist in a choking emergency.

The extensive rollout across the town has helped to ensure that vital choking prevention and intervention equipment is readily available to be used across a wide array of different locations across the community, helping to safeguard the youngest and most vulnerable members of the community.

The store’s commitment with LifeVac is far from finished as well as Spar Condorrat has also confirmed its plans to branch out across the North Lanarkshire area. Three LifeVac devices are now set to be installed in Cumbernauld, Motherwell and Coatbridge college campuses and an additional extra travel kit will be provided to Glencryan Additional Support Primary School, along with essential training for staff and children.

Also, as part of the initiative, pupils from Cumbernauld Academy will participate in first aid and LifeVac saving skills training, equipping the next generation with this life saving knowledge.

Matt Banagan, chief executive at LifeVac, said: “What makes this project special is that it has been driven by local people who genuinely care about their community. To see every school and nursery in Cumbernauld equipped with LifeVac devices is a fantastic achievement.

“We hope it inspires other communities across Scotland to consider what more can be done to improve choking awareness and emergency preparedness.”
