Pushing boundaries: A first for The Glasgow Distillery 1770 whisky.

THE Glasgow Distillery has launched the latest addition in its Small Batch Series with Glasgow 1770 Red Wine and Ruby Port Cask Finish whisky.

The Glasgow Distillery has blended together peated and triple distilled whiskies, with the two expressions undergoing different maturations styles.

Its peated whisky was first matured in virgin American white oak barrels and finished in Bordeaux red wine casks and its triple distilled matured in first fill ex-bourbon casks before finishing in ruby port casks.

The final result comes bottled at 57.5% ABV with an RRP of £50 per 700ml bottle.

Only 1925 bottles of the limited run are available, with the distillery upping the number after the firm said it saw a greater demand for its previous releases.

Mike Hayward, founder of The Glasgow Distillery, said: “The foundation of our Small Batch Series has always been about pushing the boundaries of flavour profiles in whisky and our Glasgow 1770 Red Wine and Ruby Port Cask Finish takes this to the next level, marking our first foray into combining two distinct spirit styles with two distinct maturation processes.

Together, they harmoniously combine and balance beautifully, jointly offering notes of red berries and dark fruits on the nose, toasted almonds and tobacco on the palate and a long and spicy finish with hints of pink peppercorns.”
