Retail chain Scotmid has unveiled its new and expanded Newburgh store having taken over a former parish church building in the community.

SCOTMID Co-op has opened its latest new c-store in a former parish church, bringing more choice, expanded services and a much larger shopping space to locals.

The 2,000sq ft outlet in Burghead, Moray, is twice the size of the town’s old Scotmid, giving customers the ability to complete their weekly shop locally.

Shoppers can choose from more than 2,000 products, with some ranges doubling in size compared to the previous store.

The store has made effective use of the parish church building including with its stained glass windows.

The expanded space offers a wider selection of fresh and frozen food, everyday essentials and local Scottish produce.

Food to go has also been enhanced, with a broader range of convenient meal options, alongside new services, including an InPost parcel locker.

The development gives the landmark building a new role at the heart of the community, while retaining historic features, including its stained-glass windows, which remain a striking feature of the new store.

Brian Boyle, chief operating officer – retail at Scotmid, said: “This is much more than a larger store. It is about making sure people in Burghead can access more of the products and services they need closer to home.

“This opening reflects our continued commitment to Burghead and, as a co-operative, supporting communities like this is at the heart of what we do.”
