Scotmid members help raise vital funds
CONVENIENCE retailer Scotmid Co-op has raised a massive £22,000 for the Venezuela Earthquake Appeal in four weeks through its Pennies initiative.
The Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) was launched after two devastating earthquakes struck Venezuela, causing widespread destruction across the country and left thousands dead or injured.
Scotmid has been able to raise the funds over a period of four weeks through its partnership with Pennies, a digital micro-donation charity that allows shoppers to add 10p to card and digital wallet payments during their purchases to be donated to charity.
Throughout the appeal, these tiny donations added up to an impressive £22,000, demonstrating how convenience retailers are able to mobilise member and customer generosity during a time of need.
The money raised by Scotmid across Scotland, Northern Ireland and the North of England will go directly to supporting the DEC and their local partners to deliver vital support to the affected communities in Venezuela including emergency shelter, food, clean water and medical care.
