SIX Scotmid Co-op “jailbirds” have been locked up today (Friday, 29 November) – but it’s all for a good cause and they’re counting on your help to break free!

Kevin Lowe, Lynne Ogg, Stuart Forsyth, Margaret Anne Clark, Craig Strachan and Euan Murray have been thrown behind bars at a top-secret location and the only way they can win back their freedom is by raising at least £10,000 “bail” for Maggie’s.

The cancer support charity is the partner that Scotmid is fundraising for this year and its centres are a lifeline for many sufferers.

People can visit www.justgiving.com/campaign/scotmidjailorbail to make a donation.

The Maggie’s centres offer a haven of hope and a unique blend of practical and emotional support – all free of charge – for people at any stage of their cancer journey, as well as for their families and friends.

With over half the population likely to be affected by cancer at some point, the services Maggie’s provides have never been more essential.

But the “inmates” are armed only with their wit, tenacity and social media savvy – and they’re asking Scottish Grocer’s audience to help raise enough funds for bail.

The jailbirds said: “We’re so grateful for your support – whether you’re donating, sharing our mission, or cheering us on. Together, we’re not just helping us escape “jail” – we’re breaking barriers for people impacted by cancer.

“Thank you for standing with us. We’ll see you on the outside soon!”

The 12-month Scotmid fundraising initiative aims to help the charity deliver 15,000 sessions of cancer support in Maggie’s centres.

There will also be Maggie’s pop-ups in Scotmid stores across the nation to raise awareness of the support available to individuals and their families at the centres.

Scotmid stores have also introduced Maggie’s branded merchandise to allow customers to show their support, while staff are being encouraged to get involved in local fundraising activities.
