ALLWYN Entertainment has officially taken over the running of the National Lottery.

Having been handed control today (1 February), Allwyn – which already runs lottery services in countries including Italy, Austria and the Czech Republic – has already laid out its commitments to support retailers for the next decade as part of its 10-year licence.

This includes ambitions to increase the size of its retail sales team by 50% in the coming months, as well as a ‘Welcome to Allwyn’ pack containing a new Players’ Guide and Retailer Organiser Folder, with new POS coming in later weeks.

Alex Green, director of channel operations at Allwyn, said: “Retailers are absolutely central to our vision to grow the National Lottery responsibly over the next 10 years – and expanding our sales team in the next few months to considerably boost our support for them is just the start of what we have planned.”

Allwyn secured the licence for the National Lottery after Camelot lost out on the fourth lottery licence following a competition process in August 2020. The firm had operated the National Lottery since 1994.

As a result of this changeover now, Allwyn has informed retailers that in-store terminals are expected to be operational from 8:30 in the morning and should be left on overnight to allow for necessary downloads.

National Lottery retailers should also be aware of the change from Parcelforce to DPD as the chosen courier for Scratchcards, deliveries and collections.

Green said: “The new licence heralds an exhilarating new chapter for The National Lottery and the massive good it does for people and communities across the whole of the UK – and I’m really looking forward to working with all of our retailers as we embark on this exciting journey together.”
