OLYMPIC greats Sir Chris Hoy and Dame Kelly Holmes have helped to raise awareness of Talisker’s support for Parley for the Oceans’ marine conservation projects.

The duo joined and swimmer Ross Edgley to complete a special relay triathlon along Edinburgh’s coastline.

Skye-based whisky maker Talisker is funding Parley research being carried out by Edinburgh’s Heriot-Watt University off Orkney into the role of kelp forests.

Holmes said: “I was incredibly excited to be partnering with Talisker to undertake this epic race in the name of ocean conservation.”

Scotmid connects with charities

A DOZEN charities based across Scotland and the north-east of England have received valuable funding to continue providing vital services thanks to Scotmid’s Community Connect initiative.

The scheme gives good-cause groups the chance twice a year to receive money from an overall pot of £84,000.

Applications are shortlisted and voted on by Scotmid and Lakes & Dales Co-op members, with the latest successful organisations announced last month.

Since the initiative launched in 2017, in excess of £550,000 has been awarded to more than 66 groups. Scotmid president Jim Watson said: “We’re incredibly proud to support so many worthy causes, whose mission is to make society better.”

An impression of what the new Chivas Brothers’ Islay distillery will look like.

CHIVAS Brothers has announced plans for a new distillery on Islay.

It marks the first time the Pernod Ricard brand will introduce an Islay whisky to its Scotch portfolio, rounding out its offering of globally recognised malts and blends that includes The Glenlivet, Royal Salute, Chivas Regal and Ballantine’s.

Chivas Brothers has an ambitious goal to be carbon neutral in distillation across all of its sites by the end of 2026. So the design of the Islay project will be carbon neutral in distillation from inception.

Boss Jean-Etienne Gourgues said: “This is an important new chapter in the Chivas story. We can create a blueprint for carbon-neutral distilling.”
