IT’S not only chocolate that enjoys a spring in sales around Easter time.
According to Swizzels, sugar confectionery also sees a boost and it says sales of its products grew by 18.5% year on year for the five weeks of the last Easter period.
Marketing manager Sarah-Louise Heslop said: “We have seen huge growth in the popularity of sugar confectionery at Easter over the past few years – people are always on the lookout for chocolate alternatives.
“It was clear from 2015 that sharing bags and tubs are the key sellers over the spring period.”
To meet that demand this year, Swizzels has brought back its Spring Selection bag and launched the Easter Mix tub.
Heslop argued that Swizzels products are especially suitable for convenience stores as they offer variety and value for money.
“The bright packaging will also make our products stand out on shelf as consumers look for brands they know and love.”
• Mondelez International is reporting a successful first year for its Bassetts Jelly Bunnies. A Mondelez spokesperson said: “The sharing bag was the number-one Easter-themed candy sharing bag in 2015.
“It will return for 2016 in a 165g bag featuring the same seasonal packaging.”
Jelly Bunnies, available in cases of 12 units, have an RRP of £1.32.
