Dumfries crowns ‘Robert the Brews’ at Spar
SYMBOL group Spar Scotland has introduced its new mascot for the Barista Bar coffee service to drive up excitement for the brand.
Crowned at Spar Rosevale in Dumfries, the new mascot ‘Robert the Brews’ was named following a nationwide naming competition which attracted over 300 entries from across the country.
The winning name came from Dumfries local Prentice who dubbed the kilted mascot ‘Robert the Brews’. To celebrate the win, Prentice was invited to Spar Rosevale for a special meet and greet with the newly named mascot.
In addition to winning the competition, Prentice was also presented with a Spar Scotland vouchers to redeem in-store as well as a Barista Bar goodie bag.
Commenting on his win, Prentice said: “As soon as I saw the mascot dressed in a kilt and tammy hat, the name just clicked. ‘Robert the Brews’ felt like the perfect Scottish pun – honouring an iconic historical figure while nodding to a great cup of coffee. I’m thrilled SPAR loved it as much as I did.”
‘Robert the Brews’ is now set to embark on a tour of stores across the country and will attend a range of community events across Scotland. Spar customers have been encouraged to follow Spar Scotland across social media to keep an eye on his tour dates and grab a selfie with the new mascot.
Lori McKay, marketing manager at Spar Scotland, said: “This competition was all about bringing our communities together and giving our customers the chance to put their own stamp on our newest team member.
“We received so many wonderful entries, but ‘Robert the Brews’ truly captured the fun, warm, and distinctly Scottish spirit of our new mascot. Prentice did a fantastic job, and we couldn’t be happier with the result.”
