Edinburgh-based sour beer brewer Vault City has introduced its new Marvellous Liquids range to push sour beer flavour and textures to a new level.

EDINBURGH sour beer producer Vault City has unveiled its “most extreme” range of beers yet with the introduction of the Marvellous Liquids selection.

Featuring a vivid green ‘slime beer’, mouth-numbing sours and its “sharpest release ever”, the new Marvellous Liquids range seeks to push sour beer options to a new limit in flavours and textures.

The limited edition range comes inspired by nostalgic sweet-shop flavours as well as classic children’s book Charlie and the Chocolate Factory with flavours consisting of Splendiferous Slime, Numbing Nectar, Brainmelting Fluid and Face Froster.

The stand-out of the new range, Splendiferous Slime offers consumers a 5% ABV sour beer with a vivid green colour and sour blend of green apple, kiwi and lime that comes with a thick-bodied “slime-like” texture.

Dubbed Vault City’s “most extreme” range yet, the Marvellous Liquids range seeks to push the limited of flavours and textures across sour beer brews.

Meanwhile, Numbing Nectar provides a citrus-focused beer with lime and orange as its core that is finished with sansho berry and Szechuan peppercorn for a tingling, mouth-numbing effect at 4.9% ABV.

Brainmelting Fluid has been dubbed Vault City’s “sharpest beer to date” with a 6.8% ABV brew that combines lemon, lime, raspberry and sherbet to create an intense sour hit in every sip.

Finally, Face Froster seeks to cool off the four-strong range with a mix of blueberry and honeyberry that is finished with cooling menthol. Face Froster holds the highest alcohol content of the range as well at 8% ABV.

All four beers come packaged in 440ml cans and are suitable for vegans with a limited range available through Vault City’s website and selected retailers.

Steven Smith-Hay, co-founder of Vault City, said: “We wanted to take everything people loved about Marvellous Liquids and turn it up. More texture, more intensity and more of those unexpected sensory moments.

“This range is exactly what Vault City is all about. Pushing boundaries and having fun with flavour, whether that’s something slime-thick, face-scrunchingly sour or completely unexpected on the palate.

“A lot of our beers are accessible, especially to those who aren’t typical beer  drinkers. These flavours in particular could be the golden ticket for people who want to go all in on sour.”
