GLOBAL snacking giant pladis is making a McVitie’s debut into the festive chocolate confectionery aisle with two NPD.

McVitie’s Jaffa Elf Milk Chocolate Treat is described as having a tangy orange centre, biscuit pieces and a mischievous elf shape to offer a playful seasonal twist on the Jaffa Cake brand.

And McVitie’s Penguin Milk Chocolate Treat is said to combine rich milk chocolate, a chocolatey cream filling and crunchy Penguin biscuit pieces.

The launches see the biscuit brand expand into the fast-growing novelty chocolate character category, which has delivered 12.7% year-on-year growth, according to NIQ data.

The newcomers, which have an RRP of £1 per 29g treat, are rolling out across grocery, wholesale and convenience this month.

Emma Johnson, brand manager seasonal at pladis UK&I, said: “Jaffa Elf and Penguin Milk Chocolate Treats offer shoppers a playful alternative to the category’s traditional Santas and Reindeers, bringing fresh personalities to the seasonal confectionery aisle.

“Jaffa Elf captures the playful, tongue-in-cheek spirit that has always been at the heart of the Jaffa brand, while Penguin’s instantly recognisable character and festive appeal make the duo perfectly placed to bring something genuinely fresh and exciting to Christmas confectionery.”

The duo join a whole raft of other McVitie’s festive treats, including Jaffa Cakes Spiced Orange Flavour, with an RRP  of £1.50. And returning for this Christmas are the iconic Jaffa Tree (£3 RRP) and Jaffa Pole (£4 RRP).

Returning for the third consecutive year are McVitie’s Gingerbread Flavour Milk Chocolate Digestives (£2.25 RRP). Back by popular demand, Happy Faces returns to the much-loved favourite, McVitie’s Family Circle (400g, £3 RRP). Meanwhile, McVitie’s Victoria Classic Biscuits Selection (245g, £4 RRP or 490g, £5 RRP) is described as bigger, better and more indulgent than ever.

Finally, McVitie’s Victoria Chocolate Creations Biscuits Selection (307g, £6 RRP) is said to be a gift made to be shared and enjoyed.
