DISCOUNTER chain Lidl has announced plans to invest half a million pounds in its expansion in Britain as part of its ambitions to open 40 locations across the country.

As part of its continued mission to expand into more communities across Scotland, Lidl has published its 2025 site requirements brochure and outlined some key potential locations for stores in Scotland including:

• Banchory
• Bearsden
• Newton Mearns
• Peebles
• St Andrews
• Stonehaven

And of the 40 sites to open across Britain, locations have already been confirmed to include Livingston and Edinburgh.

This year will also see the completion of the expansion of Lidl’s Belvedere Regional Distribution Centre, which has more than doubled in size. And to support this growing estate, the discounter is also set to begin construction of a new distribution centre in Leeds later this year.

Richard Taylor, chief development officer at Lidl GB, said: “This level of investment is a clear sign of our ambition. As we enter our fourth decade in Great Britain and hurtle towards a thousand stores, there are still so many part of the country crying out for convenient access to a Lidl store.

“Our latest site requirements brochure reinforces the scale of our ambition for the future. New Lidl stores mean new jobs, new opportunities for British suppliers and continued investment into local economies.

“We’re proud to be one of the fastest growing supermarkets in the country, and with this investment, we’re taking another big set in our journey.”
