Whisky maker releases two limited-edition expressions
THE Glasgow Distillery has released cask-strength editions of two of its most popular single malts in the first of what will be an ongoing series of batched cask strength releases.
Glasgow 1770 Peated Cask Strength Batch 01 and Glasgow 1770 The Original Cask Strength Batch 01 will give fans an insight into the unadulterated, raw character of two of the distillery’s most popular expressions, straight from the cask, says the firm.
Mike Hayward, co-founder of The Glasgow Distillery, said: “Every whisky we sample at the distillery is initially tasted at cask strength before dilution.
“We wanted to give customers the chance to experience amplified versions of two of our signature styles of spirit and an insight into what we get to taste day-to-day.”
The Original Cask Strength Batch 01 is described as having “the defining fruity heart of our unpeated double distilled spirit magnified, with prominent notes of zesty Seville orange marmalade, dried apricot, toffee apple, poached pear and toasted pineapple and rich dark fruits and luscious vanilla to finish”.
Meanwhile the Glasgow 1770 Peated Batch 01 makes use of three hogsheads that result in “notes of rich BBQ sauce, tobacco leaf and opulent smoked Iberico ham married with sticky poached plums, dried apricot and flamed orange zest”.
Glasgow 1770 Peated Cask Strength Batch 01 has an ABV of 60.8%, with 1000 bottles available. Glasgow 1770 The Original Cask Strength Batch 01 is 61.3% ABV, with a run of 750 bottles.
Both are available on The Glasgow Distillery website and in specialist retailers across the UK, with an RRP of £64 for The Original Cask Strength and £66 for Peated Cask Strength.
Pickering’s Gin Crimbo Limbo Calendar
EDINBURGH’S Summerhall Distillery has launched its Pickering’s Gin Crimbo Limbo Calendar.
Inspired by traditional advent calendars, the new offering takes an imaginative twist by starting post-Christmas and counting down to the New Year.
It offers up a daily gin treat and some humorous yet essential reminders – helping people keep track of the days and their duties during the time between Christmas and New Year, says the distillery and capital-based creative agency Sunshine, which came up with a fun campaign for the calendar.
Containing six 50ml bottles of 34.7% ABV gin, the £30 calendar is available from summerhalldistillery.com.
Distillery co-founder Marcus Pickering said: “Having learned from the success of our renowned Christmas Gin Baubles, we wanted to create a new product that could be given as a gift on Christmas Day.
“The idea of the Crimbo Limbo Calendar just made sense to keep the festive vibe going.”
