Managing director Blair Paterson says Mrs Tilly’s will have a lot of NPD in future.

CONVENIENCE retailers who shout out about the Scottish products they stock stand to gain customers and profits.

That’s the view of Blair Paterson, managing director of traditional Scottish confectioner Mrs Tilly’s.

He said: “Scotland remains one of the strongest performers when it comes to regionality and Scottish consumers are extremely loyal to home-grown brands.

“Highlighting this well in store will undoubtedly help influence your customers’ buying decisions.”

Aside from highlighting provenance around events such as Burns Night, Paterson advised that there were always opportunities for retailers to have “tasting” tables or use supplier-branded POS to bring some focus on to their support for Scottish brands.

He added: “When it is done well, it gives customers the perception they can get similar local choice in their nearest c-store as they can in a major supermarket, thereby encouraging communities to shop locally.”

Mrs Tilly’s is extending its site in Larbert to add additional operational capabilities and Paterson promised there would be a lot of NPD over the next 12 to 18 months.

The site work also includes installing solar panels and power, and the firm has added four electric vehicles to its fleet.

Paterson added: “Sustainability is incredibly important to all of us and we certainly intend to continue to improve our sustainability.”
