CONVENIENCE stores could play an oversized role in celebrations this Christmas, according to Premier Foods.
Courtney Lewis, customer director for independent convenience and wholesale, suggested that with many major supermarkets set to close their doors on Boxing Day, c-stores that prepare in advance could pick up plenty of sales.
“Beyond Christmas Day itself, there is also an opportunity for local stores to shine throughout the festive period by having the right ranges stocked and visible in store early in the festive period.
“On Boxing Day, where supermarkets have long been open on the bank holiday for shoppers to top up accordingly, many are closed this year as a gesture of thanks to staff,” she said.
Lewis suggested stocking up on well known brands to ensure customers’ needs are met.
“By having trusted brands, such as Bisto, Paxo, Oxo and Ambrosia, this can help retailers provide local shoppers with easy access to Christmas food and top ups,” she said.
