SCOTTISH food-to-go retailers are turning their backs on natural-looking packaging, according to supplier Planglow.
Planglow says its sales of 100% biodegradable and compostable packaging have increased by nearly a third in the past year. Yet what it calls the “natural eco look” – favoured for nearly a decade – is now being superseded by bolder, bespoke and more premium branding options.
It says Gastro – its deli-styled range – outstrips the company’s other three branded collections. The Gastro Deep-fill Wedge was the company’s biggest selling product of last year.
Stephen Ferguson, Planglow’s Scottish account manager, commented: “We developed Gastro specifically for those providers that wanted to introduce a premium, deli-style and a stronger, darker brand. Bolder brands then snowballed last year.”
