CONFECTIONERY may provide everyday treats but – with staying in now having virtually replaced going out in many households – there’s a place for special treats too.
Companies supplying indulgent products in a series of product categories argue that couples, families and groups of friends who decide on a special dinner at home are willing to push the boat out for special items. They remain safe in the knowledge that it will still cost a lot less than going out to a restaurant.
Luxury and indulgent desserts fit neatly into those scenarios.
So what should a c-store retailer stock in the freezer to serve the demand for indulgence?
Specialist supplier Coppenrath & Wiese told Scottish Grocer the largest category within frozen desserts is cheesecakes with a19.4% share of the sector.
The individual desserts category now holds 11% of the frozen dessert sector.
A company spokesperson said: “At C&W we think keeping the freezers stocked up is vital to ensuring consumers get what they want.
“It is important that consumers can shop as easily and efficiently as possible therefore we suggest products are displayed clearly and can be found easily – ensuring the best selling lines feature prominently.”
