Embracing flavour trends with Jaffa Cakes

GLOBAL snacking firm pladis has unveiled its latest flavour development for its McVitie’s Jaffa Cakes brand with the new Hot Honey variant.
Aiming to capitalise on the on the trending flavour, the new limited edition McVitie’s Jaffa Cakes Hot Honey combines the sweetness of honey with the heat of chilli in a jelly filling covering a light sponge base and coated in Jaffa Cake’s signature crackly dark chocolate.
The new variant, alongside the brand’s core range, is set to be supported by a far-reaching PR campaign complete with a presence across social media in the months to come. There will also be some in-store point-of-sale materials for retailers to make the most of.
The new McVitie’s Jaffa Cakes Hot Honey packs feature 10 ‘Hot Cakes’ inside with an RRP of £1.50 – along with a PMP format with an on-pack price of £1.49 – and is available across Asda stores now before it rolls out more widely across other multiples, wholesalers and convenience stores.
This new limited edition launch follows on from McVitie’s Jaffa Cakes Cola Bottle flavour from 2024 as pladis looked to introduce more younger shoppers to the brand.
Jessica Woolfrey, marketing manager at pladis UK&I, said: “This launch builds on the success of limited edition Jaffa Cake Cola Bottle, where hot honey is a flavour that’s trending globally amid a bigger movement that’s seen people embrace sweet and spicy across a wide range of food products.
“We know consumers are increasingly looking for new and exciting flavours, and ‘swicy’ – sweet and spicy – hot honey is one of the most popular newer trends, with a huge following on social media and across the culinary world.
“We are once again demonstrating our category leadership by launching a unique new flavour.
“This ‘heat meets sweet’ trend has taken the savoury world by storm, and now we’re ready to boldly bring it into Jaffa Cakes.
“It packs a punch and has the ability to drive buzz, especially among younger consumers, just like Jaffa Cola Bottle did.”
