Scottish Grocer Entrepreneur Award winner opens 11th store – with more to follow
SCOTTISH Grocer Entrepreneur Award winner for 2023, Jay Javed, has opened his 11th store in the Glasgow area.
The boss of PGNJ Ltd unveiled his new Rutherglen store on 15 December, providing many shoppers in the area with a modern and sleek Nisa Local, complete with a temperature controlled beer cave that keeps packs of all sizes chilled for shoppers.
And the beer cave is perfectly catered to the locals, with the new store sited in a former pub space. Javed has brought the original Tennent’s sign that used to hang outside the pub into the beer cave, bringing a touch of local history into the store.
This latest store marks the 11th shop in the Greater Glasgow area for PGNJ, with the 12th set to swiftly follow on from this opening as Javed said this would be comimg next month.
Javed said: “The Rutherglen site made sense for us, it was an available spot to open up a new store and, since it was an old bar, getting the proper licenses sorted was a lot easier as it already had some existing licenses.
“And it’s ideal for the elderly customers as well – there aren’t many local shops near here so it gives them an option without having to travel too far.
“This coming year still holds a lot of work and growth for us as well. We’ve got two store refreshes to do and we’ve got an existing store we’re going to move to the north of Glasgow.”
