Why change is on the cards

Firm explains benefits of its franchises

Munawar Mohammed jumped at the chance to buy a Card Connection franchise.

If you’re jumping ship from one side of the retail chain to the other, picking the right product to supply to stores is crucial.

For two of Card Connection’s Scottish franchisees, that meant greetings cards. And the firm says it’s not hard to see why:

• UK shoppers are the biggest purchasers of cards in the world, sending 783 million in 2021;
• The UK card market is worth a massive £1.5 billion;
• Retailers love the margins on cards, which have justified their shelf space through recessions and Covid alike.

Card Connection is an expert in supplying cards to the convenience sector, with two ranges specifically designed to stand out in the busy display environment of these stores.

Munawar Mohammed discovered Card Connection’s range when his brother stocked them in his stores for 15 years.

So Mohammed, formerly a DFS sales rep, jumped at the chance to buy the Aberdeen franchise when it came up for sale.

Meanwhile, Francois Van Der Zee snapped up the Ayr franchise. As a former retailer who had stocked the card range in his Post Office and convenience store, he didn’t need to be sold on the product, having seen exactly how well it sold first-hand.

Card Connection says its range of specially designed cards, gift wrap and gift bags for the convenience market are very popular with managers and store owners right across the convenience sector.

Its local small business owners provide a tailored merchandising service where displays are regularly updated. Retailers only pay for what has been sold, with terms and payment often arranged through the various symbol groups.

The Stirling franchise, which also includes Perth, Dundee and Peebles, is currently available – go to www.card-connection.co.uk to find out more.
