WANT to sell more magazines? Then look for customers keen on slimming or sewing. Those are among the mags that are doing best while others continue to struggle.
While TV listings magazines took the top three places in the sales charts again in 2014 only one of them increased sales year on year.
According to the Audited Bureau of Circulations’ Consumer Magazine Report, TV Choice at number one saw a decrease in average sales in the second half of 2014 of 7.9% against the equivalent period in 2013. What’s on TV, in second place, showed a slight increase of 0.7%.
It was one of only three of the top 10 best sellers to avoid a drop in sales.
Slimming World with a rise of 7.8% was the best performer in the top 10 and Good Housekeeping was up by 1.3%.
Glamour remained the top-selling woman’s magazine but lost 2.5% while the more practical Prima recorded an increase of 2.7%.
Men’s Health dropped 6.1% and FHM almost fell out of the top 100, landing in 99th position with a fall in sales of 21.4%.
Celebrity title Star recorded the biggest decrease in the top 100, down 27.2% and New! lost 20.7%
Toy tie-in Lego Legends of Chima recorded the biggest increase with a rise of 25.2% against the previous year.
Saga Magazine stayed in the top 10 but its sales dropped by 13.8%.
