Scotmid set to introduce a new food-to-go focused store

LEADING Scottish convenience retailer Scotmid is set to open the doors on its new concept store in Uddingston.
The new Scotmid Uddingston store will officially open on Thursday 30 April, offering what the retail chain has called an “improved shopping experience” for members of the local area.
Scotmid said the new store will respond to an evolving customer demand in the area and shift in shopping habits. Whilst offering a smaller shop format, the location is packed with a strong food-to-go offer, a range of fresh and frozen goods, everyday essentials as well as local sourced Scottish produce.
Reflective of Scotmid’s growing ambition to incorporate more convenient meal options, customers will be able to enjoy an enhanced range of options at Scotmid Uddingston including from Chopstix Noodle Bar, a dedicated beer cave area as well as a Costa Coffee.
Customers visiting the store on its open day will be able to enjoy a free Costa coffee along with treats from South Lanarkshire ice cream firm Equi’s, as well as goodie bags handed out to the first 50 shoppers who come through the doors.
To mark the occasion, a ribbon is set to be cut by 10am by Christine Steven who has worked in Scotmid Uddingston since the original store opened over 33 years ago.
Joining in these celebrations will be pupils from the local Aikenhead Primary School, whose choir is set to kick off the day, alongside representatives from Viewpark Church whose foodbank operations supports plenty of locals in the area.
The store will be open seven days a week from 6am to 10pm once it opens on Thursday 30 April.
Brian Boyle, chief operating officer retail at Scotmid, said: “We’re delighted to be opening our first new concept store in Uddingston, building on more than 100 years of serving this community.
“This store reflects how customers are choosing to shop today, with greater demand for convenience, quality food-to-go and locally sourced products, and we’ve designed the space to meet those needs in a modern, accessible way.
“What hasn’t changed is our commitment to the community. Having our longest-serving colleague open the store is a fitting way to recognise the role our teams play locally, and the relationships they build with customers every day.
“We’re proud to be investing in Uddingston and look forward to welcoming customers through our doors.”
