Musselburgh retailer marks a new chapter
AWARD-WINNING retailer Dan Brown and his family have acquired 100% of the shares for Pinkie Farm from the Sands family, bringing the estate entirely under family ownership.
Brown was involved with Pinkie Farm when it first opened in Musselburgh in 2014 before taking on the role managing director in 2018. He now runs the business alongside his partner Nicole, who joined in 2022.
Speaking on the acquisition, Dan said: “I am incredibly thankful to the Sands family for their support and mentorship over the years. This store has been close to my heart since I first became involved, and it’s a true privilege to lead it forward with my family.
“We’re excited about the next chapter for Pinkie Farm and look forward to deepening our ties with the Musselburgh community as we expand our offerings and further develop our services.”
Meanwhile, the Sands family has confirmed its own commitment to growing the David’s Kitchen estate across Scotland, with plans to open a new Spar convenience store and neighbourhood shopping centre in Bo’ness next year.
Lindsay Sands said: “We are delighted to have agreed on such an amicable outcome and wish Dan and his family every success in the future.”
Pinkie Farm recently marked its tenth anniversary with an in-store celebration, highlighting its strength in the Scottish convenience market over the years and showcasing a reputation for excellence in service to its local community.
The store re-opened in 2014 under the management of Colin Smith, now chief executive of the Scottish Wholesale Association, who alongside fellow managing director David Sands helped to establish the quality the business would come to be known for.
Now, with an ambition of working towards the future, Dan believes his partnership with Spar Scotland will remain essential in developing his vision for Pinkie Farm.
The Musselburgh retailer has re-affirmed his ambitions to continue working alongside Spar Scotland wholesaler CJ Lang & Son to achieve this by bringing in a comprehensive product range and pricing for local customers.
Dan said: “Together, we’re committed to setting new standards in convenience retail for the Musselburgh community, blending quality, affordability and innovation in ways that truly benefit our customers.”
