Independent distiller Eden Mill has teamed up with East Neuk Salt Co. to launch a new Smoked Salt Sugar Syrup to pair with its The Guard Bridge whisky.

INDEPENDENT Scottish distiller Eden Mill has created a new sugar syrup to draw more cocktail lovers to its whisky range.

Working alongside St Monans-based artisanal salt producer East Neuk Salt Co., Eden Mill has launched a new Smoked Salt Sugar Syrup.

Available for a limited time only, consumers can get their hands on a bottle of the sugar syrup exclusively from the Eden Mill website for free alongside a purchase of a bottle of distiller’s blended malt scotch whisky The Guard Bridge.

The new sugar syrup has been made using a combination of traditional and modern methods to deliver a 100% organically hand-harvested Scottish sea salt flakes by husband and wife duo Darren and Mhairi Peattie from Grade A waters source from East Neuk.

The St Monans sea salt is then smoked with cask staves from Eden Mill’s own single malt whisky to deliver a cocktail modifier that adds a smoky element to the drink balanced by the flavours of sea salt and sugar.

Looking to make the most out of this cocktail opportunity, Eden Mill has rolled out its own The Guard Bridge Old Fashioned cocktail recipe as follows:

• 60ml The Guard Bridge Blended Malt Scotch Whisky
• 15ml Smoked Salt Sugar Syrup
• Two dashes of Aromatic Bitters
• Orange Twist

• Add all the ingredients into a jug with ice cubes and mix well. Place a large ice rock in a rocks glass and strain the cocktail over the top to fill. Place the orange twist on top of the ice rock to garnish.

Commenting on the partnership, Hannah Ingram, head of marketing at Eden Mill, said: “Fife is our home, and an integral part of our brand.

“It has such a rich larder and we want to celebrate this whenever we can – from sea salt to barley and botanicals.

“Our team was inspired by what East Neuk Salt Co. is doing and we jumped at the chance to partner with them. The syrup is simply delicious – perfect in an Old Fashioned.

“With a palate pleasing combination of sweet, salt and smoke, it immediately whisks you away to a beach barbecue on Fife’s stunning coastline.”

Darren Pettie, co-founder of East Neuk Salt Company, said: “It’s fantastic to collaborate with a local Fife business like Eden Mill. Combining their innovative spirit expertise with our unique smoked salt sugar blend, this partnership brings an exciting new dimension to the premium cocktail market, and we can’t wait to see how mixologists and consumers respond.”
