FOOD waste reduction platform Gander has announced a new integration with EPOS provider ShopMate to support retailers in cutting back on food waste.

The new integration will allow store owners to connect seamlessly with the Gander platform through the ShopMate EPOS system that will make it easier to identify reduced-to-clear stock and share live availability data with local shoppers in real time.

The integration makes use of ShopMate’s handheld scanner and mobile receipt printer to quickly and simply identify those products that can be displayed on the Gander app, allowing stores to participate without disrupting the day-to-day workflow of the business.

Brian Eagle-Brown, managing director at ShopMate, said: “Retailers are under increasing pressure to manage costs, reduce waste and operate more efficiently, without adding complexity in-store. Integrating with Gander allows ShopMate users a practical solution to improve commercial returns and reduce food waste.”

ShopMate currently provides EPOS services to more than 4,200 retailers across the UK and is widely used by independent convenience stores. This makes this new integration a significant opportunity to scale Gander’s impact across the convenience sector.

Further to this, the integration will also complement ShopMate’s recent partnership with Snappy Shopper, helping retailers link EPOS, local e-commerce and waste reduction from one, joined-up digital ecosystem.

Stacey Williams, business development director at Gander, said: “ShopMate’s scale and strong presence with the wholesalers makes this a really important integration for us.

“It significantly lowers the barrier for convenience retailers to access Gander and immediately start reducing waste, improving margins and engaging their local communities. This is exactly the kind of partnership that helps us accelerate adoption across the sector.”
