Cleanest time of the year?

IF you thought the spring was the main time for Britain’s households to go through a deep cleaning session think again.

The period running up to and through Christmas and even the time after the holiday see consumers clean houses more than usual, says Mintel. Toilets and kitchens are among the most thoroughly cleaned rooms.

It just might be commercially wise to stock some extra homecare brands and products as the winter holiday season draws close.
Research published last year by Mintel said that in 32% of households someone gives the house an extra thorough clean during the traditional spring cleaning period.
But in the lead up to Christmas the big clean goes on in almost 40% of homes.

And if guests are expected for the Christmas period then some parts of the house are prioritised for some tender loving care.
Some 76% of people expecting guests make cleaning the toilet a priority and 66% make a point of seriously cleaning the kitchen.
So what should a store consider stocking up on in its homecare fixtures ahead of and during the Christmas period.
Among the most purchased lines in the big Christmas clean up period, according to Mintel, are air fresheners for bathrooms and toilets, boxes of tissues for guest rooms, and scented candles for living rooms.
And it might also be worth keeping the homecare shelves especially well-stocked all the way through to the end of the holiday period in early to mid January as Mintel found that 25% of people say they give their house a deep clean after the decorations come down.
