Fife-based free-from brand rolls out to stores
FIFE-BASED entrepreneur Megan Murrie has secured retail listings for her allergen-free food brand Nakey Bakey.
Murrie has now secured listings across Scotmid Co-op stores following on from her win at the retail chain’s Scottish Favourites competition, with Nakey Bakey products landing on Scotimd shelves across Scotland.
In addition to the new listings across Scotmid, Nakey Bakey is also available via Renfrewshire-based wholesaler JW Filshill, supporting the company’s continued growth ambitions.
Murrie said she founded the company after years of living with endometriosis as well as a nut allergy which can make finding suitable food a challenge. Following years of this, Murrie set out to create her own naturally-made, allergen-free and low-sugar products to help cater to this market.
What started out as a personal solution has since grown into a full business across Scotland with a range of allergen-free granolas and snacks all coming from a dedicated facility in Glenrothes.
Today, Nakey Bakey produces 14 free from and allergen-free products that are naturally sweetened using fruit and are also suitable for vegans.
To match this expansion for the Fife brand, Nakey Bakey has also secured a £100,000 invoice finance facility from Bank of Scotland which will help the business to further invest in stock and increase production capacity. Furthermore, the firm has confirmed it will expand its workforce to meet the demand with the ambition to introduce additional employees by the end of 2026.
And this marks the start of a massive ambition for the firm with plans to become the UK’s leading allergen-free food brand within the next five years.
Murrie said: “What began as a personal solution quickly became something much bigger, showing me that many others were looking for the same thing. My family and friends encouraged me to pursue it as a business, and the response since then has shown just how much demand there is for genuinely healthy, allergen-free food.
“Securing our first major retail listing in Scotmid Co-op stores is a huge milestone for Nakey Bakey. It’s incredibly rewarding to see something that started in my kitchen now on supermarket shelves and the support from Bank of Scotland has given me the confidence and funding to take those next steps and this really is just the beginning for Nakey Bakey.”
