WELSH producer Hive Mind & Mead Co has expanded on its Tavern Mead range with the introduction of two new variants for its line-up.

Aiming to bring a greater depth of flavours to the range, Hive Mind has now introduced its Hedgerow and Spiced variants to the line-up to help tap into the demand for authentic British honey mead drinks.

Hedgerow has taken inspiration from the British countryside and has been inspired by the tart, tangy and wild flavours discovered in a traditional British hedgerow. The most prominent flavour among this is wild blackberry which has been mixed through with honey and wine to deliver a stand-out mead.

Meanwhile, Spiced brings a warming option for the winter months with a distinct combination of cinnamon and ginger spices. This mead can be served cold or warm, with the latter providing a substitute for traditional mulled wine options across the season.

These two new variants mark the latest expansion to the Tavern Mead range following on from the line-up’s launch in spring of this year.

Hive Mind aims to deliver a more accessible mead range for young adult audiences through the Tavern Mead range with a more approachable 8% ABV rather than the more traditional 14-18% ABV that is typical of the drink. And with this lower than usual strength, the Tavern Mead range also boasts a lower price point than standard options in the category at £16 per 750ml bottle.

Kit Newell, co-founder of Hive Mind, said: “We wanted to put a real marker down for Welsh entrepreneurship, our nation’s hard-working beekeepers and the wider rural economy. Tavern was created to showcase award-winning, genuinely authentic honey mead in the best possible light, while opening the door to a much wider audience.

“The response to the original has been incredibly encouraging, and these two new editions allow us to build on that momentum, bring even more personality to the category and take the Tavern story further across the British Isles and beyond.”
