NATIONWIDE charity campaign The Galloway Gathering Project has raised the equivalent of 92,000 meals donated directly for people experiencing food poverty and loneliness.

As part of its calendar of community events designed to combat these two issues, the project travelled from Garve in the Highlands to Thornhill in Dumfires and Galloway to raise money and awareness for the vital work of FareShare.

New for 2025, the Galloway Gathering Tour visited the Highlands, Aberdeenshire, Dumfries and Galloway, and Stirling with attendees enjoying some cheesy comfort food, live music and meaningful social connections at each event.

The tour took place over the course of October and featured live performances by acclaimed Scottish musician Anna Massie, a multi-instrumentalist and presenter of BBC Radio Scotland’s award-winning Travelling Folk.

Gary Maclean, Scotland’s national chef and ambassador for the charity programme, visited Dundee to whip up plates of macaroni cheese for locals and encouraged social interaction through some warm and comforting meals.

Scottish local food trucks also returned to the Galloway Gathering Project for the third year in a row, offering a range of cheesy dishes and pushing the local community to donate to FareShare as well.

The Galloway Gathering Project was founded in 2023 and is a nationwide campaign that brings together Scottish cheese brand Galloway Cheddar and FareShare, the UK’s leading food redistribution charity.

Heloise Le Norcy-Trott, marketing director at parent firm Lactalis UK & Ireland, said: “Seeing the Galloway Gathering Project thrive for a third consecutive year is incredibly rewarding. It’s grown beyond our expectations, and we’re proud of its impact.

“This initiative brings communities together through food, music, and shared experiences. We’re especially grateful to those who donated to FareShare, a charity doing vital work across the UK.”
