GLASGOW-BASED bakers McGhee’s has launched a deliciously spooky treat for October with its limited-edition Halloween Empire Biscuits.

Featuring the brand’s iconic two buttery shortbread biscuits sandwiched together with raspberry conserve and icing on top, the Halloween themed biscuits feature a chocolate skeleton skull or chocolate cobweb design on top, adding in some extra fun to the aisle.

In addition to the biscuits, McGhee’s packaging has also embraced the fancy dress element Halloween with a refreshed look across the box in a bold seasonal design.

The Halloween Empire Biscuits are suitable for vegetarians and baked to McGhee’s signature recipe and will make for an ideal treat to share this Halloween.

Available now across local independent stores, Spar, Scotmid, One-O-One Convenience, Sainsbury’s, Iceland and Morrisons locations, McGhee’s Halloween Empire Biscuits have proven to be a strong addition to the baker’s seasonal line-up, with volumes almost doubling year-on-year as new stockists come onboard.

The Port Dundas-based bakery is also gearing up to celebrate its 90th anniversary year in 2026, with the traditional Empire Biscuit a staple of the business since its inception and a firm favourite with consumers across Scotland.

Aisling McGhee, commercial director at McGhee’s, said: “Our Halloween empires have become a bit of a tradition for families across Scotland, and it’s something we really look forward to baking each year. There’s something so special about seeing them pop up in shops across the country and knowing they’ll be part of people’s celebrations at home.

“Empire biscuits have always been part of what we do, but their popularity has really taken off in recent years. When we first moved to Port Dundas in 2005 we were only producing around 2,000 a day, and there has been an extraordinary scale-up in production capacity since then.

“The team has had a lot of fun bringing this year’s design to life: the cobwebs and skeletons are a brilliant finishing touch, and it’s amazing to see how much excitement they create every autumn. It’s become one of those products that everyone in the bakery takes real pride in, and we love seeing how quickly they fly off the shelves.”
