Tomatin launches The Sherry Collection trio of malts

Distillery builds on the sherry opportunity

Highland distiller Tomatin has unveiled a trio of new single malt expressions in its Sherry Collection, displaying the influence sherry casks have on whisky.

HIGHLAND distiller Tomatin has unveiled a new trio collection of single malts with its The Sherry Collection.

Available now across specialist retailers as well as from the brand’s website, Tomatin’s new three-strong range includes three different sherry cask finishes to help highlight the unique influence of the different cask types, according to the brand.

These include Tomatin whisky that has been matured in a Manzanilla sherry cask, a Palo Cortado cask as well as a Pedro Ximénez cask. All three casks have been sourced from the Jerez region of Spain that have been in maturation for more than a century.

The new range follows on the from the latest launch to Tomatin’s core range with its 12-Year-Old Sherry Cask expression.

The Manzanilla Edition – RRP £65 at 46% ABV – was distilled in 2014 and finished in Manzanilla butts for two years helping it to carry a depth of flavour which has been described as aromas of sourdough bread and salty popcorn on the nose with a dried fruits, chamomile tea, grapefruit, maple syrup and salted walnut on the palate.

Meanwhile, The Palo Cortado Edition – RRP £95 at 46% ABV – has been finished at the slightly longer period of three years in Palo Cortado butts after being initially distilled in 2008. On the nose, this dram has been described as having notes of milk chocolate, toasted fruit loaf and Brazil nuts on the palate.

Lastly The Pedro Ximénez Edition – RRP £150 at 46% ABV – marks the highest price for the series as well as the longest maturation time of 17 years, which is inclusive of an eight-year finish in PX casks. A nose of sticky toffee pudding and espresso is followed by a combination of lemon curd, golden syrup, dates, dried fig and muscovado sugar on the palate.

Each edition comes in the classic Tomatin 700ml bottle with its distinctive packaging to help to the brand to stand out on shelf further.
