Mix up drinks options for sunnier days

CCEP urges convenience retailers to help shoppers enjoy the summer at home with mixers and premium soft drinks

SUMMER opportunities could see many people trading out the beer garden for the comfort of their own back garden in a bid to save some cash.

But that doesn’t mean they can’t bring a taste of the bar home with them. To do so, retailers should be ready to offer a strong selection of mixer options that can deliver on this desire for consumers.

As such, Coca-Cola Europacific Partners (CCEP) has pushed many convenience store operators to keep in a core range of mixer options that shoppers can turn to for those unexpected sunny days in Scotland.

And it’s on those days that the c-store will be able to shine along with the sun, with more consumers making the spur-of-the-moment decision to go out to purchase the right ingredients for their favourite drink to enjoy with the sun.

As a result, CCEP reckons its Schweppes range or even other premium adult soft drinks could prove to be popular mixers this summer.

Amy Burgess, senior trade communications manager at CCEP, said: “Consumers are looking to pair their favourite spirits with quality mixers like Schweppes, whose mixers are sold more in retail than any other mixer brand, meaning Schweppes Classic Tonic and Slimline Tonic are likely to be in high demand.

“Premium adult soft drinks, such as Appletiser, can also be used as a flavoured base for cocktails and mocktails, or in a mixed drink, offering a light crisp flavour with no added sugar, preservatives or colourants. “

HEINEKEN UK has a zesty new addition to its quiver with the launch of its new Strongbow variant.

Strongbow Zest offers a thirst-quenching apple cider that has been blended with lime, lemon and orange flavours and will come to retail in June.

The new variant saw an exclusive launch across the grocery channel in March in both Tesco stores and Asda but will now roll out across convenience and wholesale in April.

The 500ml can format along with the four pack of 440ml cans will come to both channels this month, with RRPs for the two sitting at £1.50 and £5.50 respectively.

And, ideal for the summer months, Heineken will bring a 10 pack of 330ml cans of the new variant to convenience and wholesale in June, with an RRP of £10.

Rachel Holms, cider brand director at Heineken UK, said: “We’re excited to launch Strongbow Zest into the market ahead of the Cider season.

“Through the launch, our ambition is to continue to recruit new consumers into the cider category, particularly those who are on the hunt for fresh innovation and new flavour experiences.”
