A look at what’s going on across the Scottish convenience channel
Spar revamped at Drymen
THE Spar store in Drymen, near Loch Lomond, has been fully refurbished thanks to major investment by owner CJ Lang.
The revamp includes new branding, flooring and lighting, eco-friendly fridges and freezers, and a new sales counter that also has a self-service checkout.
There’s an improved fresh produce and meat offering, a bakery range and a bigger alcohol section.
Other features include a free ATM, Paypoint, Lottery, Tango Ice Blast, Costa and a selection of food-to-go items.
Three local charities each received £500 at a launch event to celebrate the store’s reopening.
Khaliq’s key role at UWS
CASH & carry giant United Wholesale (Scotland) has appointed Naeem Khaliq as its new head of symbol.
He will be responsible for the symbol retail estate of Day-Today and USave stores across the business from a leadership, promotional strategy, sales, compliance and growth perspective.
Khaliq has worked at UWS for 35 years, most recently as marketing chief.
Managing director Chris Gallacher said: “We know that Naeem will continue to build on the strong relationships within the symbol team and with suppliers to help grow the business of our symbol retailers even further.”
Belhaven’s top qualities recognised
BELHAVEN has received three medals from a prestigious global quality institute.
And the Dunbar brewery’s Visitor Experience has been given 4-Star Quality Assurance status by VisitScotland.
The brewer picked up two golds for its Scottish Oat Stout and Wee Heavy, plus a silver for its Belhaven Scottish Ale in the Monde Selection 2023.
VisitScotland said the visitor tours were “a fantastic addition” to the area’s tourism offering.
Belhaven brand manager Fiona Matheson said: “Both accolades are a tribute to our teams and the passion they bring to all that we do.”
