FOOD Standards Scotland has teamed up with Morrisons and Scotmid to help prevent the misery caused to Scots consumers by food poisoning.

With the bulk of the campylobacter cases involving the preparation of chicken, the organisations highlighted four easy steps to avoid illness.

The advice was outlined to the public through a series of roadshows in Morrisons stores in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Dundee, Falkirk and Inverness.

The tips included the best way to defrost chicken, effective cleaning after handling the raw meat, methods to avoid cross-contamination with other food and how to check the chicken is properly cooked.
