Single-use plastic ban is in force

New single use plastic guidance

NEW laws banning the use of certain single-use plastic cutlery, plates and food and drink containers have come into force.

As of 1 June, it is unlawful to make and supply commercially any of the following single-use plastic items in Scotland: Cutlery (forks, knives, spoons, chopsticks and similar utensils); plates; beverage stirrers; food containers made of expanded polystyrene; cups made of expanded polystyrene.

Plastic straws are exempt from the regulations, due to accessibility requirements for some consumers.

Full guidance on the new plastic regulations is available from Zero Waste Scotland.
