ABERDEENSHIRE-based Hamlyns of Scotland is stepping up its sustainability efforts, with new packaging expected to launch later this year.
Alan Meikle, managing director of Hamlyns, predicted that sustainability and health will be the two major trends in the food and drink sector in 2022. The health benefits of porridge are well known among consumers and now Hamlyns is bolstering the environmental credentials of its packs.
Meikle said: “Post-COP26 there’s a huge push by both government and consumers for products to be available in sustainable packaging.
“We are currently redesigning the packaging on our core range of porridge oats and oatmeals in recyclable packaging, which will be available in the first half of 2022.”
In addition to improved recyclability, Meikle said the new packs will draw attention to the fact that Hamlyn’s mill at Boyndie in Banffshire is powered by the firm’s own 2.3-megawatt wind turbine.
