DESPITE Covid travel restrictions, Bunnahabhain was still able to give whisky fans a taste of this year’s Islay whisky festival, Fèis Ìle.
Billy Sinclair, the distillery’s visitor centre manager, led an online tour of the island, meeting residents and sharing tales.
The tour took in Islay’s landscapes, and covered its Gaelic heritage, whisky bars and nautical past as well as Bunnahabhain’s links with the ocean.
Virtual tourists were able to choose where Billy went and had the chance to take part in games along the way.
The distiller also created a playlist of music traditionally heard at the festival to enhance the experience for listeners from all over the world, taking part in the festival remotely.
The distiller’s activity also included two virtual tastings on Facebook live, and limited edition festival releases.
Global brand manager, Sarah McKeeman, said: “Fèis Ìle offers so much more than just whisky and we wanted to recreate some of this magic as part of our packed event programme of virtual tastings and limited-edition releases.
“Billy chatted with Islay locals, recounting stories of life on the island, and taking our fans along on this unique journey with them.”
