Curry favour with the fans
A CUP of hot Bovril, a halftime pie, or a portion of chips and curry sauce are synonymous with trips to football grounds to cheer on a beloved team.
Food is all part of the experience for spectators, both at home and in stadiums, but as Covid-19 continues to cast doubt over crowd sizes in the hospitality sector – and with an action-packed summer of sport ahead – Scotland’s c-store retailers can step in to cater for fans enjoying the big match at home.
To assist in this effort, family-run ‘field to fork’ and farming business Mash Direct has expanded its range with football in mind, as it celebrates the addition of a new Curry Chips SKU to its portfolio.
Mash Direct Curry Chips are made from steamed potatoes, a gluten-free beer batter and a “mild but fragrant” curry seasoning and are gluten-free and free from artificial colourings and flavourings.
The Curry Chips are 100% gluten free and free from artificial colourings and flavourings.
According to Mash Direct, the chips are prepared immediately after harvesting, in keeping with the firm’s ‘field to fork’ ethos.
The firm reckons its latest innovation is the ideal pairing for gatherings of family and friends cheering Scotland on at Euro 2020.
Lance Hamilton, chief commercial officer at Mash Direct, said: “Mash Direct, the award-winning ‘field to fork’ vegetable accompaniments brand and farming enterprise, have been working hard on the family farm expanding its innovative range of fresh, nutritious and 100% gluten-free pitch-side dishes for their Euros 2021 debut by launching a new Curry Chips SKU.
“The latest addition to the brand’s beer battered range uses potatoes that are lightly steamed until fluffy, gently coated in a gluten-free beer batter and lightly fried until crisp before being sprinkled with a mild and deliciously fragrant curry seasoning.
“Mash Direct’s Curry Chips are prepared immediately after harvesting, which ensures an unrivalled freshness of flavour and retains the natural texture and nutritional benefits of the produce.
“The Curry Chips are 100% gluten free and free from artificial colourings and flavourings.
“We are delighted to be launching our new Curry Chips SKU, to add to our ever-expanding, innovative range of field to fork vegetable accompaniments,” he said.
• Mash Direct’s range also includes Beer Battered Chips, Beer Battered Onion Rings, Chilli Baby Bakes and Potato, Cheese and Onion Croquettes.
Earlier this year, Mash Direct launched Burns Bites – made with mashed potato, sweet turnip and haggis – to coincide with Burns Night celebrations.
