MFG takes biggest share of UK forecourts

Esso

INDEPENDENT forecourt operator Motor Fuel Group has taken over petrol station and convenience operator MRH in a deal that creates the UK’s top petrol station and convenience store operator by number of sites and the second largest by fuel volume.

The £1.2bn deal gives MFG a combined total of more than 900 sites.

Alasdair Locke, chairman of MFG, will remain chairman of the combined business. Sir Terry Leahy, a senior advisor to MFG backer Clayton, Dubilier and Rice funds and former chief executive of Tesco, will continue to serve on the board of directors.

CD&R partner Marco Herbst said: “As petrol forecourts transition to customer-focused convenience and food-to-go hubs, this platform is distinctly positioned.”

MFG’s move on MRG closely follows a deal to add the Esso brand to its network.
